A FORMER Herefordshire teacher and headteacher is taking on a 300-mile cycling challenge to raise money for a health charity despite her own mobility problems.
Originally from Scotland, Allyson Taylor is a well-known former teacher to many pupils who attended Herefordshire schools.
Allyson lives in Bromyard and now works in education for the Church of England.
In recent years, she has undergone radical surgery to realign the bones in both legs to help with mobility problems caused by osteoarthritis.
Allyson said: “I am not as ninja as I once was and very much miss teaching PE and swimming. I can still cycle though and I am committed to raise funds for Cancer Research UK in the Cycle 300 Miles campaign. So far, almost £500 has been sponsored by generous supporters and if any other Herefordians, cyclists, teachers or arthritis patients would like to sponsor me I can be found on the CRUK website.
“One in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetimes. Several close friends of mine are cancer patients and I want to do what I can, while I still can.”
