The story of the Mission, Vision & Values of the Compass NS organization:
We sustain, build and grow inclusive housing cooperative communities by drawing on our core values of sustainability, inclusion, and collaboration so that we achieve our vision of being the housing of choice for Nova Scotians who want strong governance and credible management in a thriving co-op community.
Compass NS was incorporated as a non-profit housing co-operative under the Co-operative Associations Act in Nova Scotia in April 2016.
The governance structure of Compass NS includes resident members, and non-resident members, who bring specific skills and expertise
to the co-operative. The current board consists of 7 directors, 4 non-resident and 3 resident directors.
Compass NS, was incorporated in 2016 to assist co-operatives in need of support and to grow the co-op sector. Since late 2019, six co-operatives have amalgamated into Compass NS. Compass NS is currently in the process of growing through development and has three development projects underway.
Compass NS currently has 111 homes located in 8 neighbourhoods. Compass NS’s Neighbourhoods are located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik people, first signed with the British Crown in 1725.
